Welcome to our Synagogue

The Milton Keynes and District Reform Synagogue (MKDRS) has recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary. Our small and friendly congregation is based in Milton Keynes but attracts members from a wide area in Bucks, Beds and Northants. MKDRS is affiliated to the national Movement for Reform Judaism, though it would be true to say that our membership represents a wide spectrum of religious observance. Many of our members are in mixed-faith relationships and we always extend a welcome to non-Jewish partners.

Since 2002 we’ve had a synagogue building on the north side of the city, not too far from M1 junction 14. Over the past year we’ve concentrated on providing our synagogue with  a beautiful new ark to house our Torah scrolls, and in addition a reading desk and lectern.  We have a small but excellent library of study books which support our education classes  and which members can borrow.

We like to feel that we provide for all levels of Jewish interest and involvement. There are education classes for our members and for their children, and we provide support for small  numbers of non-members who may be interested in converting to Judaism.

Our varied  programme of social events is especially popular with members, including quizzes and a  reading group. Members of MKDRS also become members of the Jewish Joint Burial  Scheme, which receives part of each member’s subscription.

MKDRS is largely run by volunteers. We have a small management council elected at our AGM in May each year and we especially welcome members happy to help out with our work. We have a regular programme of religious services, conducted by our members and also by our part-time Rabbi. For most of our services we use the siddur published by the Movement for Reform Judaism, but we have frequent less formal family services and also Friday evening Kabbalat events with food, singing, readings and discussion.

We keep in contact with our members through a bi-monthly magazine Listen, and through frequent email bulletins of current events. Ours is a diverse, active and happy community. We hope you will want to join us.
